for everyone

This page is special published for extra information about all medical aspects that can occur when you train a special needs judo class. What to do with people who have obesities or have epilepsy and are not free of seizures? Or one of your students with Down syndrome has serious heart problems.

Sometime it is hard to deal with these extra medical aspects, but they are a fact of live.

In fact judokas with a disability need more care than judokas in main stream judo, and is in general underestimating. Especially people who don’t guide special needs judokas are often not aware which preparations must be made to train or compete with special needs judokas.

What does it mean when you learn the art of judo to a person with Spina Bifida with Hydrocephalus.

How do you deal with this??

A word of advice

At some point in my point of view I think it is wise for some judo teachers to amid that they simply do not have enough expertise to handle this. If someone brags, about the fact that he started to teach judo to the disabled without any experienced.

And in my point of view even without a proper background of judo (1st Dan is hardly a base to start teaching whit full responsibility). I have my doubt if someone is capable to take the full responsibility if a Special Needs judoka is badly injured.

My advice is to get as much background information as possible; the best way to do this is education and stage by a well experienced coach/teacher.

The minimum education starting a judo group with Special Needs judoka’s is Disabled Caretaker

It doesn’t take long to be educated in this field. Usually within a few months, you can start with a stage buy an experienced judo teacher. There are numerous of schools offering this education.

Being a judo teacher for the disabled is not an easy task to handle every time, so it is extremely important that you research this field.

Talk to others who work in this area so that you can really decide if this is the way you want to go and what you can handle.
