Last weekend, on Saturday September 4th, the 10th central training took place in the Netherlands. The Dutch Judo Federation wants SN judokas to improve their skills. Therefore the JBN has assigned a National coach for these SN judokas. His responsibility is to compose a National selection for elite SN judokas (Level 1 and 2). 34 Judokas participated in this training. Not bad at all! There are approximately 50 SN judokas of this level in the Netherlands. The DJF (JBN) has the responsibility for ALL judokas, including SN judokas, and has made a long range plan till 2012. Herein is systematic included the stimulation and projects for (future) SN judokas. Every year at least 15-20 SN projects are run by qualified teachers in SN organizations, like schools, daycare centers etc. In the future this SN elite group will only expend. Unfortunately are other projects not that far, and it is difficult to find a proper competition for the Dutch elite SN judokas. But better to start now and stimulate other federations to also create SN National selection, than too late. The JBN is convinced that SN judokas on elite level need a meaningful competition to stimulate them to continue in the sport of Judo. Special Olympics fails in that matter, once a judoka has successfully entered their competition and became a champion at the World Summer Games, this judoka is banned from the competition, because the rule is: one who participated once on the World Summer Games, is not entitled to participate a next time. The philosofy of the Special Olympics is that all atheletes must have the chance to get the experience of this thrilling event, once in a life time. There is nothing wrong with this philosofy, but for the high level SN judokas, who understand the meaning of competition and winning and losing, it's not enough. The central training of this group in the Netherlands is the proove: 2 years ago the high elite SN judokas almost didn't participate in the competition. Nowadays, almost all SN high level judokas are competing for selection points they can earn in the competition. The continuation is a place in the National team for the best SN judokas and to be send out to represent the Netherlands in the International competition, which is a honner.
